Couples counseling in Gainesville, FL
Sessions for partners who want to talk to each other again, whether you are repairing, deciding, or growing.
Marriage and couples counseling
Most couples arrive long after the point where it would have been easiest to help. That is normal, and it is not too late. Couples counseling gives the two of you a neutral room, a steady guide, and a structure for the conversations that keep going wrong at home.
Our couples work comes from marriage and family therapy training, which focuses specifically on relationships and family systems. Sessions are 60 minutes, with 90-minute sessions available by request when you both want more room.
What couples come in for
- Communication that turns into the same fight every time
- Trust after an affair or a long silence
- Parenting, in-laws, money, and the division of labor
- Intimacy and distance
- Premarital counseling
- Deciding whether to stay, and how to separate well if not
How it works
The first session is about hearing both of you. Your therapist learns what each of you wants to be different, how the two of you got here, and what you have already tried. From there you work on the patterns between you, not on who is right.

Questions people ask
What if only one of us wants to go?
Come anyway. One partner working on the relationship still changes the relationship. Many couples start that way, and the other partner joins later once they see it is not about blame.
Can we book a longer session?
Yes. Standard couples sessions are 60 minutes. If the two of you want more room to slow down, a 90-minute session is available by request.
Do you take sides?
No. Your therapist works for the relationship, not for either person in it. If the honest outcome is a decision to separate, we help you do that well.
Can we do this by video?
Yes. Both of you join from the same room or from different places. Same rate, same therapist.
